A multitude of stores and shops are located just a short drive from Spring Lake Ranch.  Five minutes west, Beach Corner provides general grocery items as well as gas.  For wider shopping needs, Safeway is available in both Stony Plain, located 10 minutes east, and Spruce Grove, a larger community 15 minutes east.  Sobeys, Walmart and Superstore are also located in Spruce Grove, offering residents a variety of nearby grocery options.  For vitamins, supplements, and other health-conscious foods, Stony Plain features health food stores Home Grown Organics and Vitality.  
 
Stony Plain’s Meridian Village Mall offers everything from clothing and groceries to household products and dance classes.  Spruce Grove features two malls: Westland Market Mall and King Street Mall, providing residents with a variety of shops offering clothes, books, and home wares.  Staples and Canadian Tire are also located in Spruce Grove, which feature an array of items from stationary and electronics to automotive and kitchen and bath supplies.

In Stony Plain, the shops on Historic Main Street offer shoppers a selection ranging from contemporary and antique furniture to jewellery and books, women’s clothing, home decor, and locally-crafted pottery and art.  Easily accessible from Spring Lake Ranch, the Stony Plain and Spruce Grove communities provide residents with the conveniences of urban living just minutes from their lakeside homes.

Restaurants

Spring Lake Ranch’s lakeside location offers easy access to a variety of dining options.  
 
Just ten minutes east, Stony Plain features a range of eateries from well-loved pizza, pasta, and burger establishments such as Pizza Hut and Original Joe’s to specialized cafes and independent organic restaurants.  Locally-owned Misella Delite supports healthy living with environmentally-friendly delicious food such as as veggie burgers and grilled paninis.

 Just a  five-minute drive further, Spruce Grove offers cuisine from around the world, from Chinese and Japanese food at Ray’s Wok and Honshu Japanese to Greek and Italian food at Something Else and East Side Mario’s.  Local favourite The Loft at Sandyview Farms is a family-run restaurant serving hearty breakfasts and lunches with fresh smoked meats and local eggs.

Festivals & Events

Spring Lake~ Annual Winter Festival and Canada Day Community Summer BBQ

Spring Lake Ranch’s close proximity to neighbouring communities Stony Plain and Spruce Grove gives its residents unique access to a range of local events.  
 
Each summer, Stony Plain hosts the Blueberry Bluegrass and Country Music Festival , a popular three-day event that includes musical performances, slow pitch, kid’s activities, and camping.  The Cowboy Poetry and Country Music Festival hosts artists from across North America to celebrate traditional cowboy poetry, music, and art.  And Farmers Days Rodeo and Exhibition offers three days of rodeo performances, live entertainment, a midway, and a parade.
 
In Spruce Grove, locals celebrate July 1st at the Canada Day and Street Performers Festival which features street performers, a Kid Zone, free concerts, and fireworks.  The Grove Cruise is a three-day family-themed car festival that includes a Vintage Car Parade, Show and Shine, and a Tailgate Swap Meet.  And Christmas in Central Park provides locals an opportunity to celebrate the season with skating, wagon rides, live reindeer, and the beautiful lighting up of Central Park.
 
In both Stony Plain and Spruce Grove there is a phenomenal Farmer’s Market that runs from April to November and offers all the freshest, locally grown produce and artisan gifts.

Art and Culture

A short drive east of Spring Lake, nearby communities Stony Plain and Spruce Grove feature local and regional art at various venues.  The Stony Plain Library exhibits a rotating collection of works by local artists, while the Spruce Grove Art Gallery features pieces by over 450 regional artists.  One of Stony Plain’s most cherished attractions is its collection of outdoor paintings and sculptures, created since 1989 by artists from across Canada.  These colorful and varied artworks depict the community’s unique heritage through over 30 life-size murals and three historical statues.
 
Since 1982, the City of Spruce Grove has bought original artwork by Albertan artists in a collection that has grown to over 170 pieces.  These works of art are displayed in various public spaces throughout the city.  Spruce Grove’s Allied Arts Council provides a range of classes and workshops for adults and children, as well as sponsoring an annual open art competition.   Both the Spruce Grove Art Gallery and the Spruce Grove Public Library are housed within the Melcor Cultural Centre, which brings community members together to enjoy both the visual and literary arts.
 
For theatre lovers, Horizon Stage Performing Arts Centre hosts plays, music and dance performances, and theatre classes, and is home to local theatre company The Horizon Players.  Spruce Grove is also home to Parkland Cinema 7, a seven-screen theatre complex which opened in the fall of 2007.  
 
Local news is distributed through the Stony Plain Reporter and the Spruce Grove Examiner, and Spring Lake Ranch residents share community updates through online newsletter The Heron.

Recreation

One of the most fulfilling aspects of life at Spring Lake Ranch is its access to an extensive range of recreation.  Residents take advantage of the Spring Lake waters for canoeing, kayaking and paddle boating, as well as year-round rainbow trout fishing. Bird lovers can observe a variety of bird life that use the lake for summer nesting.  
 
A ravine trail borders the north side of the community, providing a scenic hike just seconds from home.  Several cycling, hiking, and snow-shoeing trails are accessible through Spring Lake Village, as well as children’s park, play areas and the communal picnic space called The Meadow. Ten kilometres north of Stony Plain, the Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area is home to a range of walking, cycling, hiking, and equestrian trails, as well as tracks set for cross country skiing.  
 
For lovers of the ice, Spring Lake Village features an outdoor skating rink.  Stony Plain’s Centennial Arena Ice Skating Rink offers public skating, skating lessons, ice hockey, and pickup hockey.  Spruce Grove features three outdoor rinks: Lakewood Skating Rink and Pad, Brookwood Skating Rink and Aspenglen Skating Rink and Pad, each available for general community use.  
 
Residents who enjoy golf can take in a game just 7 minutes west of Spring Lake Ranch at the Cougar Creek Golf Resort.  This championship 18-hole resort is situated in a natural forest on rolling terrain, and features a varied course through trees, water areas, and open greens.
 
Spruce Grove also offers one of Edmonton’s most dynamic recreational facilities, the Transalta Leisure Centre.  Drawing family members of all ages to its array of classes, this facility holds programs ranging from spin and swim classes to running clinics and kids fitness camps. With two NHL-sized rinks, an aquatic centre, gymnasium, multiple soccer fields and indoor fitness track, the Transalta inspires healthy living for the entire community.

Schools

Spring Lake Ranch’s location in Parkland Country gives it access to excellent schools at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
 
Just a two-minute drive away, Blueberry Community School has been rated the best school in Parkland County.  Serving K-9, it provides bus service directly to Spring Lake Ranch.  Stony Plain offers five public elementary schools including Stony Plain Central, St Paul’s Cathlic School and Meridian Heights, each serving K-9.  Private school St. Matthew Lutheran also serves K-9, while Memorial Composite High School is provided for grades 10-12.
 
Spruce Grove offers three public elementary schools and two public middle schools, as well as Spruce Grove Composite High School, which educates approximately 1,200 students from Parkland County.  Three Catholic schools are offered in a separate district at the elementary, junior, and high school level, and Living Waters Christian Academy is a Christian school offered in a private district.
